What does it take to be a Home Instead CAREGiver?

You don’t need a degree, specific qualifications or even previous experience to become a Home Instead CAREGiver.

What you do need is to value and enjoy the company of older people, be extremely reliable and be happy to complete some home help and personal care services. 

As a CAREGiver you will assist clients with personal care, light household duties, meal preparation, medication reminders, and transport to appointments, shopping and social outings. 

Sometimes you will assist clients with walking, eating or with showering, dressing or personal grooming. On some occasions you may need to assist clients with toileting and continence care. 

Other clients may need special care to manage chronic health conditions such as diabetes, Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer’s disease or Dementia or they may have suffered a stroke.

No matter their circumstances, we ensure our clients receive the highest level of quality care and support to live comfortably, safely and independently in their own home.

You will have flexibility to work day, evening, overnight and weekend shifts and the opportunity to work regular shifts with a single client, or with a number of clients.

Training and development

At the Home Instead Senior Care network, we recognise the important role training and education plays in preparing and supporting our CAREGivers.

As a member of the Home Instead Senior Care team you will receive a personalised orientation and undertake our five-phase comprehensive, in-house CAREGiver training program where you will learn everything you need to know about being a Home Instead CAREGiver and our special way of caring for seniors.

On completion of your CAREGiver training, you can go on to obtain a Certificate III in Home and Community Care with Home Instead, which is a formal nationally, accredited training qualification awarded by our registered training partner.

You can also go on to complete further training courses developed by Home Instead Senior Care in palliative care and dementia care.

Your training and development at Home Instead Senior Care will help you to understand and manage any challenges you may face when caring for Home Instead clients.

You are always welcome in the office, will be invited to attend quarterly CAREGiver team meetings, receive updates in our monthly newsletter and have the opportunity to participate on care teams and attend special events.

Exceptional CAREGivers are recognised locally through our quarterly and annual CAREGiver Awards and may even go on to be honoured nationally through our annual Australian CAREGiver of the Year award.
